Cortext platform
At Cortext, our goal is to empower researchers in the social sciences and humanities by promoting advanced qualitative-quantitative mixed methods. Our primary focus is on studies about the dynamics of science, technology and innovation, and about the roles of knowledge and expertise in societies.
We understand the move towards digital humanities and computational methods not as addressing a technological gap for the social sciences, but rather as entailing entirely new assemblages between its disciplines and those of modern statistics and computer sciences. We work to tackle ever more complex research problems and deal with the profusion of new and diverse sources of information without losing sight of the situatedness and reflexivity required of studies of human societies.
Cortext is hosted by the LISIS research unit at Gustave Eiffel University, and was launched by French institutes IFRIS and INRAE, receiving their continued support.
Cortext Manager
Cortext Manager is our current main attraction, a publicly available web service providing data analysis methods curated and developed by our team of researchers and engineers.
You upload a textual corpus in order to analyse its discourse, names, categories, citations, places, dates etc, with methods for science/controversy/issue mapping, distant reading, document clustering, geo-spatial and network visualizations, and more.
You can jump straight to Cortext Manager and create an account, but we strongly suggest taking a look at the Documentation and Tutorials as you start your journey.

abstract = {[Purpose/significance] The Open Government Data (OGD) movement has stimulated the opening and sharing of government data significantly. Data use, reuse, distribution, and value creation, is the next vital step in the global OGD movement. Summarizing current research progress in OGD utilization would lay a foundation for follow-up re? search and provide theoretical support for future practice.
[Method/process] This paper intends to explore the development trends and future perspectives of OGD utilization research mainly based on research articles from both China and abroad. Grey literature (i.e., related government documents, meeting minutes, important institution/project reports)are also analyzed to demonstrate a more holistic scenario. First, the development trend and topic distribution of OGD utilization research are discussed. Then, this article clarifies Chinese and international research progress from three aspects of data value, data user and promotion method. Finally, recent research trend of OGD utilization is summarized and future research directions are prospected based on research results.
[Result/conclusion] This paper reveals three research tendencies in OGD utilization studies. First, previous OGD utilization study was driven by the supply side, while current study tends to motivated more by the demand side. Second, previous OGD utilization study was usually conducted from a macro viewpoint, while fine-grained research angle is more preferred currently. Third, research paid more attention on data usage in government departments in former studies, while research on the use of OGD by the public is increasing. Several research topics are worth researching in the future, namely OGD utilization value, diverse OGD users and solid support measures for OGD utilization. From China’s perspective, the angle and depth in OGD utilization research need to be further enhanced. Moreover, studies that reflect Chinese characteristics are essential for the improvement of the international level of China's OGD utilization research. },

abstract = {This paper presents a contribution to the study of bibliographic corpora through science mapping. From a graph representation of documents and their textual dimension, stochastic block models can provide a simultaneous clustering of documents and words that we call a domain-topic model. Previous work investigated the resulting topics, or word clusters, while ours focuses on the study of the document clusters we call domains. To enable the description and interactive navigation of domains, we introduce measures and interfaces that consider the structure of the model to relate both types of clusters. We then present a procedure that extends the block model to cluster metadata attributes of documents, which we call a domain-chained model, noting that our measures and interfaces transpose to metadata clusters. We provide an example application to a corpus relevant to current science, technology and society (STS) research and an interesting case for our approach: the abstracts presented between 1995 and 2017 at the American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual Meeting, the major oncology research conference. Through a sequence of domain-topic and domain-chained models, we identify and describe a group of domains that have notably grown through the last decades and which we relate to the establishment of “oncopolicy” as a major concern in oncology.},

abstract = {Systematic reviews summarize the progress of studies and pave roads for future research in an academic field. However, conducting a systematic literature review can be burdensome and time-consuming. Computer-assisted methods such as text mining techniques have been increasingly applied to improve systematic reviews in public administration. To test the reliability of using text mining for systematic literature reviews, this study uses clustering, topic modeling, automatic multi-term extraction, and text network to systematically review articles published in Chinese Public Administration Review from 2002 to 2019. By comparing machine-produced topics with existing human-coded themes, findings show that applying text mining methods for systematic reviews can be reliable and effective with cautions. The study also offers practical suggestions for researchers to apply text mining methods for systematic literature reviews.},
