Our team was very pleased to receive the visit of Paulo Meirelles, associate professor at the department of Computer Science of the University of São Paulo (USP), who joined us between the 12th and the 16th of January. With Ale Abdo (LISIS), Paulo has been co-supervising three undergrad students in a participatory research project involving code quality and refactoring techniques, applied to the methods provided by the Cortext platform and its flagship application Cortext Manager.
Several activities took place during his stay: a seminar to present our respective works, including the code quality evaluations of Cortext methods; a hackaton to deploy a first batch of technical contributions from the Brazilian students; other work sessions preparing publications and planning further collaboration. After Paris, Paulo headed to Spain for another academic visit before returning to Brazil.
Improved methods deployed during his visit: corpus explorer, entirely refactored by student Julia Rosa; Named Entity Recognizer, with updates; and Pubmed “.nbib” format parser, with updates.
