abstract = {In the context of recent debates on the social function of science, social impact has gained increasing prominence as a discursive category in scientific production, especially in Latin America. This article analyzes, from an informetric approach, how social impact is addressed in scientific literature produced in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico during the period 2016–2024. The study is based on the construction of a bibliographic corpus from records retrieved from the Scopus and OpenAlex databases, used in a complementary manner to expand regional and linguistic coverage. Using co-occurrence analysis techniques, semantic network visualization, and thematic comparison between countries, the main conceptual nuclei associated with social impact are examined, as well as their relationships and national configurations. The work does not seek to measure or evaluate the effective social impact of research, but rather to identify discursive patterns, thematic regularities, and conceptual trajectories that structure its presence in indexed scientific literature. The results offer a comparative characterization of national agendas and provide insights into how social impact is configured as an object of analysis in contemporary Latin American science.

abstract = {Se is one of the essential nutrients for human health and animal growth; it participates in various physiological functions, such as antioxidant and immune response and metabolism. Se deficiency is related in the animal industry to poor production performance and the appearance of health problems in humans. Therefore, interest has arisen in producing fortified foods, nutritional supplements, and animal feed products enriched with Se. A sustainable strategy for bio-based products enriched with Se is microalgae. These are characterized by the ability to bioaccumulate inorganic Se and metabolize it into organic Se for product formulations of industrial interest. Although there are some reports on Se bioaccumulation, further exploration is needed to understand the effects of Se bioaccumulation in microalgae. Therefore, this article presents a systematic review of the genes or groups of genes that trigger biological responses associated with the metabolization of Se in microalgae. A total of 54,541 genes related to Se metabolization distributed in 160 different classes were found. Similarly, trends were identified through bibliometric networks on strains of greatest interest, bioproducts, and scientific production.},

abstract = {Mangroves are complex transition ecosystems studied and affected by human activities.. This work sought information on articles in scientific journals related to environmental impacts and their forms of management and restoration and those focused on biodiversity conservation. To answer this question, we developed this work based on a scient metric survey of production with a focus on impacts and environmental and Biodiversity responses on mangroves in the last forty years (1980 to 2020), comparing mainly the global scientific production and the production in America, listing areas of research concentration, and journal, period, country and region of publication of papers. With this survey, we could observe a standardization of the research classification area and publication periods, although checking the journals found a great variety of these. As for the regionalization of studies, we could observe that, globally, the region that most contributes to the advancement in this theme is Asia; however, the country that collaborates the most, in isolation, is the United States. Although there is a diversification regarding the specific theme, the scientific production on mangroves with an environmental focus and in Biodiversity followed a global pattern in the studied period.},

abstract = {Artificial pancreas is a well-known research topic devoted to achieving better glycemic outcomes that has been attracting increasing attention over the years. However, there is a lack of systematic, chronological, and synthesizing studies that show the background of the knowledge generation in this field. This study implements a bibliometric analysis to recognize the main documents, type of publications, research categories, countries, keywords, organizations, and authors related to this topic. Methods:Web of Science core collection database was accessed from 2000 to 2020 in order to select high-quality scientific documents based on a specific search query. Bibexcel, MS Excel, Power BI, R-Studio, VOSviewer, and CorText software were used for a descriptive and network analysis based on the local database obtained. Bibliometric parameters as the h-index, frequencies, co-authorship and co-ocurrences were computed. Results:A total of 756 documents were included that show a growing scientific production on this topic with an increasing contribution from engineering. Outstanding authors, organizations, and countries were identified. An analysis of trends in research was conducted according to the scientific categories of the Web of Science database to identify the main research interests of the last 2 decades and the emerging areas with greater prominence in the coming years. A keyword network analysis allowed to identify the main stages in the development of the AP research over time. Conclusions:Results reveal a comprehensive background of the knowledge generation for the AP topic during the last 2 decades, which has been strengthened with international collaborations and a remarkable interdisciplinarity between endocrinology and engineering, giving rise to a growing number of research areas over time, where computer science and medical informatics stand out as the main emerging research areas.},

abstract = {ANR is the French national research agency founded in 2005 and responsible for the project-based research funding. It operates under the authority of the Ministry in charge of Research and Innovation and has to implement the national research strategy. In compliance with the growing need for « open science », in order (i) to give a better visibility to ANR-funded research, and (ii) to create a favourable environment for studying and generating research-based impacts, the agency recently embraced and fostered « open access » and « open data » practices. ANR notably encourages the principal investigators to deposit their publications in an open archive, requires grant holders and applicants to prepare a Data Management Plan, and ensures the circulation of data and knowledge on public grants by providing data for each funded project in standardized formats to facilitate their broad and easy use. In the present poster, we will first describe the type of data made available to the public which provides detailed information on the projects grants funded by ANR from 2005 to 2017.Using three proof-of-principle examples, we also illustrate how this data could be exploited and investigated, at different levels (institutions, PIs and research themes) to study the impacts of ANR on the national scientific production.},

abstract = {Scientometric analysis based on the mapping of complex networks performed with the Cortext manager platform reveals that biosecurity and bioterrorism have established research communities and literature, in which plant and crop biosecurity are by far less represented than human and animal issues. Biosecurity has not made plant health “disappear” and/or does not constitute a rival field of research. The conceptual apparatus of biosecurity is close to that of some other fields of research on plant health. Some specific consistent clusters of scientists and concepts related to biosecurity and agro-terrorism can be isolated however, in particular the members of the PlantFoodSec Network of Excellence. This result demonstrates the impact of European and international programs (such as CropBioTerror, PlantFoodSec, etc.) on the structure of research networks on agro-terrorism. The article opens with an analysis of qualitative material regarding the way this scientific production and agenda permeates (or not) through daily professional activities. Focusing on plant biosecurity and agro-terrorism, it targets some common issues in scientometrics and sociology of science about the boundaries of research domains and the emergence of new paradigms with specific concepts, methods, authors and cited references. It also echoes the range of questions and reflections at stake within the scientific communities related to biosecurity, and shows the effects of expertise-driven processes on the dynamics of knowledge.},

abstract = {There are multiple on-going debates about the geographical distribution and concentration of knowledge production worldwide. Recent work done by Grossetti et al. (2015) points to a ‘deconcentration’ process of knowledge production, visible not only at country level (linked to the periodic rise of new countries in the overall scientific production landscape, a long-lasting phenomenon), but also at metropolitan level. In a European policy context, this raises the question whether we can also identify such tendencies across the European territory, and whether this specifically applies to frontier scientific fields.
In this demonstration, we have addressed this question for knowledge production in the field of Nano sciences & technologies (S&T), accounting for different kinds of knowledge production (scientific, technological and project-based). The attempts to characterise the dynamics of Nano S&T are not new (Noyons et al., 2003). One pre-condition for the empirical analysis of Nano S&T is its delimitation in relevant R&I datasets. Kahane and Mogoutov (2007) have developed a fully lexical approach which remained however static (considering only the whole period covered). This has meanwhile been advanced to a ‘dynamic‘ approach (Kahane et al., 2014) where the lexical delineation evolves each year according to the field specific vocabulary produced.},

abstract = {In this paper, we apply an original scientometric analyses to a corpus comprising synthetic biology (SynBio) publications in Thomson Reuters Web of Science to characterize the emergence of this new scientific field. Three results were drawn from this empirical investigation. First, despite the exponential growth of publications, the study of population level statistics (newcomers proportion, collaboration network structure) shows that SynBio has entered a stabilization process since 2010. Second, the mapping of textual and citational networks shows that SynBio is characterized by high heterogeneity and four different approaches: the central approach, where biobrick engineering is the most widespread; genome engineering; protocell creation; and metabolic engineering. We suggest that synthetic biology acts as an umbrella term allowing for the mobilization of resources, and also serves to relate scientific content and promises of applications. Third, we observed a strong intertwinement between epistemic and socio-economic dynamics. Measuring scientific production and impact and using structural analysis data, we identified a core set of mostly American scientists. Biographical analysis shows that these central and influential scientists act as “boundary spanners,” meaning that their importance to the field lies not only in their academic contributions, but also in their capacity to interact with other social spaces that are outside the academic sphere.},

abstract = {We performed a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the scientific literature on ecosystem services in order to help tracing a research agenda for agricultural sciences. The ecosystem services concept now lies at the heart of current developments to address global environmental change. Do agricultural sciences generate knowledge that covers this emerging theme? An analysis of scientific production allowed us to return to the ecological origins of this concept and see how little it has been appropriated by agricultural sciences until now, despite major focus on the issue of agro-ecosystems in the literature. Agricultural sciences tend to be more active in the field of environmental services, defined as services rendered by humans to ecosystems. The main studied services are those which have already been clearly identified and which act in synergy. Less attention is paid to the antagonisms between different services. These findings call for the implementation of agricultural research programmes that will consider the socio-agro-ecosystem as a whole and broaden the traditional issues addressed by agricultural sciences. We insist on three main management and operational issues that needs to be overcome if this is to be done: working at the landscape scale, increasing inter-disciplinary collaborations and take uncertainties into account.},

abstract = {In the present paper, we develop a new method of longitudinal analysis of bibliographic data in order to explore international mobility of researchers from the former USSR through their publication activity.
Firstly, by means of name recognition algorithm using machine learning, we extracted from Web of Science a dataset of publications of more than three thousand of the most active computer scientists from the former Soviet Union. Then, the information on individuals' scientific production is presented in the form of a sequence of states which summarizes the affiliation location for all articles published by a certain author in a given period.
We use Optimal Matching algorithm to measure the degree of difference (which, in the sequence analysis, is called distance) between the sequences of individual researchers' activity. The distance between sequences is analyzed by means of hierarchical clustering, which permits us to group computer scientists from the former USSR in several classes according to publication activity patterns.
Not surprisingly, ex-soviet researchers having permanent affiliation in their home country are cited less than those who have permanent foreign affiliation. However, those who switch affiliations from former USSR to foreign or the other way round and publish in internationalized groups have one of the highest levels of citation per article among newcomers in discipline.
Our research shows that scientific mobility of successful authors can be not only unidirectional, but can take form of a complex go-and-return pattern, the claim which relativizes the "brain drain" paradigm in the analysis of migration of highly qualified specialists from the former URSS. On the methodological level, we propose a new method for analyzing scientific activity which takes into account its longitudinal dynamics.
